I'm not sure how many of you have heard of a hope chest or even know what it is, so I thought I would share a little bit about mine with you today.
A hope chest is usually an actual chest or a big box that a girl fills with things for her future. A mother can help her daughter start one, or if you are like me, I had no trouble starting one on my own =) It is a way to save special things for your future home, family, or children. It is kind of inevitable that one comes across something when they are 16 that they would like to tuck away for their future.
This is something that I started years ago and have been building on ever since.
Over time I've come across all sorts of random things that I'm saving for my future children.
I thought I would share a few of these things with you today so you get the idea of this tradition.

My lovely cousin over at Dusty Window Panes made this adorable baby hat for me:
she and her mother also made matching baby booties that just melt your heart
Hopefully in the future my little girls will put on these little aprons (which I have two of in slightly different sizes) and will play tea time or bake with me in the kitchen.
I'm sure they would want to be just like their blogger mama and have their own adorable camera!
What little girl wouldn't want a little horse like this?!?! And yes, I actually have one hair clip stored away.
Steiff animals were cute toys that all of us girls grew up with and I even kept my well loved doggie given to me by my grandparents for my own children.
What do you think of this tradition? Do you have any other cute ideas like this?
I love this tradition! Such cute cute stuff Maggie! The tea set is beautiful, my niece would love it! That camera is pretty dang cute too:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool tradition. I don't have a hope chest. My mom has a cedar chest that belonged to her grandma that will be mine someday (unless she has a moment of insanity and gives it to my brother). It's full of old linens and baby shoes and stuff.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the cedar chest! =)
DeleteYes, I know of this tradition - both my grandmothers had hope chests which now adorn my parents' house. So cute that you are doing this! And is this also a hint to God that you want a little girl first? ;) Such precious items!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melissa! Ha ha I know, I realized after posting this that it was all girly things and no boy things! I'll probably have all boys =) that is beautiful that both your grandmothers had hope chests!
